Park Hood as part of a team of architects and engineers were engaged by the Belfast Trust for the purpose of a new built Health and Wellbeing Centre on the Shankill Road in Belfast.
The landscape scheme addresses the small scale planting design details around the buildings and internal courtyards but also the larger scale Landscape Framework for the overall site. Hard and Soft Landscape elements have been proposed to not only provide a practical solution to the requirements, but also to provide an aesthetically diverse outdoor environment. This environment also provides a variety of year round colour. The Landscape scheme not only screens the new development where necessary but also allows open and passive surveillance of all areas of the site.
The species selection has been chosen to reflect the usage by patient’s & staff; screen planting has been proposed along site boundaries to increase security and visual appeal from within the site, where low-lying ornamental and crawling plants are selected within the courtyard to maximize the amount of natural light into this area.
