Commissioned by Belfast City Council, Park Hood designed and managed the construction phase of a new ‘Pop Up Park’ project which has been trialled as an example of how to reimagine our civic spaces to encourage innovative use of spaces while addressing the need for all age groups and social distancing within our city centre.

Park Hood consulted with key stakeholders and held workshops with local children to input their ideas into how the space should be created. The project achieved International recognition for its funky design via the Los Angeles Times as being one of the top ten most clever Covid -19 design solutions from around the world. The multifunctional space the first if its kind in the city centre features new lighting a range of incidental fun equipment including a giant spinning ‘hamster’ wheel, outdoor musical instruments, a swinging bridge, and colourful mushrooms on a carpet of rainbow grass. All this can be viewed whilst sitting on a range of bendy seating arrangements. The park is expected to be trialled for a further 2 year period.
