Park Hood together with Hall Black Douglas Architects have been appointed by the North Down Borough Council to develop a scheme to regenerate the Pickie Fun Park it the Bangor Marina.
The concept respects and carefully develops the existing features and assets of the family park by enhancing it with new elements and by applying a consistent overall theme across the park.
The scheme comprises:
- a new circular lake walk with boardwalks and a series of garden spaces
- a pick nick area
- a new feature fence along the waterfront walkway
- an new entrance plaza
- a splash pad facility
- a miniature golf course
- an electric car circuit
- a refurbishment of the cafe with outdoor terrace
The design team is currently preparing the detail design package to allow the site works to commence in the late summer of this year.
Park Hood were appointed to masterplan the coastal sea frontage of Bangor to include for Queens Parade and Pickie Park and to prepare an overall vision for Bangor seafront. The masterplan design included the seafront and linkages to main townscape/streetscape infrastructure. We were engaged as Lead Landscape Architects to deliver Phase 1 of the masterplan, Pickie Park to completion on site. We carried out a site appraisal and condition assessment and prepared 3D sketch design information for client purposes, statutory and stakeholder consultation and presentation to Council. We refined the brief for client sign off and prepared detail design information for submission to Planning. Given the proximity of the site to the coastal seafront we assessed all localised environmental and ecological requirements and specified materials and planting suitable for maritime conditions.
